Guest guest
Wow, how cool to get to meet the woman who created DuodenalSwitch website! Nice to meet you! Thanks for explaining that, it makes a lot of sense. It really sounds to me like the DS is just overall more natural. I like that about it. I have been told that you don't loose as much weight with a DS as with an RNY. Is that true? > Actually, it is the combination of the retained duodenum along with > the pylorus and the normal digestive action of the stomach that work > together to give DS patients better absorption of key nutrients than > RNY folks. When I was putting together the DS website, Dr. Booth was > kind enough to fact-check the site for me, and he corresponded with > me and answered lots of questions that helped me develop the > website. Guest guest
> > So why do you think the RNY'ers are so adamant that the RNY is > superior?>>>>> , I dont think they know any better and/or have not researched the DS and have instead relied on what others say rather than do their own homework. Doing my own research is what showed me how much more superior the DS is compared to the RNY. I just got an email from a friend who had the RNY in may...she is now dealing with what she calls " foaming in the mouth " where all this saliva comes up and she spends 10 minutes spitting it out.......yikes! Im glad I dont have that problem...... Anyone know why that happens?? Judie

Is that true? > > > , That was a misprint, was it not? Or else, I think you got your procedures criss-crossed. The expected weight loss with the r-n-y is approximately 55-65% of the excess weight. With the DS, the average weight loss is 70-85% of the excess weight. I'll take the potentially extra 30% any day. Something tells me that many r-n-y'ers got bad information when they did their own research and now that they must live with the results of their procedure, they try to perpetrate a negative impression of the DS. It's such a shame. If one did the most critical research with total scruitiny before choosing a procedure, one typically can make a well-informed choice that will certainly meet one's needs and expectations. I hope that people will not base their surgeon and procedure choices on convenience. This is such a life altering decision that it requires knocking down any barriers to factual information as well as barriers to seeking the right treatment. Good luck! gobo DGB/ Dr. July 9, 2001
