I've never quilted, but I love to see other people's work. I agree with Bonnie about making the quilt, or other projects, with love & uniqueness (is that a word?). Unless you plan to enter it into a state fair or something, the care & thought put into it will mean more than technical quality.

A couple of years ago, a friend of mine turned 80, and someone made her a fantastic quilt using printable fabric. I didn't know it existed until then. There were photos of family, friends, Clara as a teacher, mother, author, adventurer, all the aspects of her life. The fabric sections were from clothing, linens, etc. that had been part of her life. Along with the printed photos were some of her favorite quotes & expressions, and short stories by loved ones. I can't even imagine the time & effort it took to do that. I hope that Clara lives another 20 years, but I couldn't help thinking that something like that would be nice to give sooner, so the person will have many more years to enjoy it. I have some photos of the quilt somewhere; if I can find them, I'll send them for those of you who are interested.
