Guest guest
Today I'm doing OK with the cravings. And will understand this… since I'm doing a maintenance run tomorrow morning (about 3.75 miles), I have planned to up my carb intake just slightly (this is a technique called carb loading that is necessary for long-distance running training). Usually I have an oatmeal cookie or some dried fruit, but there was this attractive cookie basket that arrived at the office—sugar cookies, snickerdoodles, and gingerbread cookies. So, I chose two beautiful cookies, and sat down to enjoy them—mindfully—in order to take in every ounce of enjoyment in every sense: the look, the smell, the taste, the feel. But they looked better than they tasted. Ick! The texture was all wrong and the flavors were off, not the way a traditional Christmas cookie should taste or feel on your tongue. In the past I would have just swallowed and finished the cookie, but now, if it's a treat, and it's not the best, I don't eat it. So I spit it out in the trash. That is something I had never done, EVER in my life before. But now, I'm more selective about what goes in my mouth (no jokes please… he he he).
