I cannot say if it is common, but we have a 3yo mito

kid who cannot eat much of any animal protein, or he

gets severe GI and neuro symptoms. No soy either. We

found out from trial and error. Before we figured it

out, he would be weak, not enough balance to walk,

really irritable, diarhea, reflux. We found that we

were able to turn this on and off through his and

mom's diet (he was still partially breast fed at the

time). He still has GI issues, failure to thrive,

apnea, low immunoglobulin levels and some mild neuro

stuff, but developmentally on or above targets.

If I recall correctly, he had spinal tap at a time

when he was symptomatic and it pointed to some amino

acids being out of whack.

I have not heard anyone share similar experiences.

When my daughter was a baby, and at her worst (health wise) she had alot of food sensitivities. She had extremely severe dirreah, reflux, and was obviously in alot of pain. At the time she was being considered for having a mito disorder because of this and liver disease wich there was no explanation for.

Her first round of blood work included Carnitine levels wich were signifigantly low. She was started on Carnitor. It took a few months or so but she did start improving. She was then tested for Mito, wich was positive.

She has been on the cocktail for over a year now, and currently eats a normal diet. (She has some minor food sensitivities, but nothing major.)

Best wishes
