Hi Everybody....I found out today by default that I'm down 100# since the start of my journey. Why default you say....? Well I woke up this morning with a knot in my groin area that hurt like heck so I saw my PCP and she determined that it was a hernia. She was worried that the intestine was still in the tear which would require emergency surgery so I asked her to call Doctor Baggs for a consult. I was lucky enough to be seen by Doctor Baggs and he determined that the intestine was popping back into the abdomen so he wasn't going to need to do emergency surgery today but that I would need to get it done soon. Well...the good doctor checked the surgery schedule and guess what? There was an opening on Monday at 2PM so now I know how I'll be spending my Monday...LOL. I remembered that when I had my CT scan prior to my WLS the technician mentioned that I had a small hernia that wasn't really a problem at this time (that was November) so Doctor Baggs is going to fix that one at the same time...a two for one laproscopic procedure. On the plus side, I'm sure that after losing the 100# it is going to be a lot easier on me (and Dr. Baggs) than if I was still 318# and I'm sure my recovery time will be less as well. I will only be off work for about a week so that's pretty quick considering that normal open hernia surgery recovery time is somewhere around six weeks. One thing I know from having my WLS done by Dr. Baggs at Richmond Kaiser is I will be in good hands.Regards,Gordy

Hi Gordy, I, too, have a hernia. Dr. Baggs tried to fix it during

bariatric surgery. It stayed put about two weeks, then popped out

again. My plan is to live with it until I have lost most of my

weight. Then have my skin removed at the same time. He warned me

that it will become more and more pronounced as I lose weight. It

is, but it is smaller than my original hernia so I live with it.

Next time he will use the good mesh but he did not want to use that

during my surgery for fear of infection. Good luck to you and good

job for losing 100#. I envy you that. Love, Lilka

Gordy, congrats on your 100 lb. loss so far! Sorry to hear about the hernia, but at least you'll be getting it fixed very quickly. I'm so glad things are going well (save the hernia thing)....

Gordy, congrats on your weight loss. I am so proud of

you. Just keep on keeping on and all will be well.

As for the hernia, I am sure that you will be fine and

YES you are in great hands with Dr. Baggs. You better

count your lucky stars that you have the PCP that you

have. That is great the way your PCP jumped right

into action like that. Take care and best of luck to

you with your surgery.

Randy Sorry for piggybacking this message. I just wanted to know if it's okay to get your last name. My son and his girlfriend are lighting a luminaria ( a luminaria is a bag filled with sand, and a small candle that makes it glow, each luminaria bears the name of a person who has or is battling cancer, they are doing a relay walk for 24 hours at UC Berkeley, I am burning many luminarias and I would like to put you in there for the relay of life. I want you to know many are keeping you in their thoughts and prayers and as they relay. This is to help find more ways of helping cancer patients. I'm not asking anyone to donate. I did this for Randy just need your last name, if you don't mind. If they don't have enough on their team of college people, I will also do the relay. They want college students first, we'll see. Take care. Donna J.jackpoint_94401
