Guest guest
I wanted to ask for your prayers for me for this coming Monday when I have a planned hysterectomy operation at Mayo. I will be staying in the Methodist Hospital there for three days approximately following that. In answer to questions I am sure some of you are wondering about: the ovaries will be staying/all else will go, I am having it due to women's issues that have been bothering me for years and for major affects upon my body monthly from the harsh cycles, and it will be done vaginally rather than through the stomach. Feel free to ask anything further, but I know these three answers have been given to most of the women hearing about my planned operation. We will be meeting with the anesthesiologist prior to the operation to make sure they avoid all the things Mito people need to avoid and will be having the operation around 9:30 AM this coming Monday (3/14/05). My hubby plans to stay in a hotel with all but three of the kids so the little ones are close by in case they need me and so the separation won't be as long. They can visit me during the daytime and I can make sure all of them are being well cared for, etc... We will go to Mayo on Sunday and probably not have access to any computer until Wednesday evening or Thursday so I will update you all when I return home. Thanks for your prayers ahead of time. Guest guest
Darlene, What are the things Mito patients should avoid during anesteshia...I have mentioned this before at our local Children's Hospital...they knew nothing of it. I know to avoid lactate ringers, but that is all I am aware of. Guest guest
Darla, Good luch on Monday. From experience I am speaking here, please take it easy upon returning home. It is easy to overdo and then your recovery will be harder. Force yourself to follow physicians orders so you won't have any complications. I think us mito moms push too hard for the good of our kids sometimes but it can hurt us in the long run. Please take it easy. Let others help and put yor feet up. Get spoiled if you can. Again, Good luck!!!!! Dawn

Guest guest
My oldest two daughters ages 13 and 14 are big helpers and so we should be fine. I plan to sit on the couch holding kids quite a bit of the time but definitely avoiding carrying and picking them up as I have heard you should avoid lifting anything heavier than 20 lbs. for up to 6 weeks following the operation. Thanks for your (and everyone's) concern! Guest guest
I have to agree; not only a strong support team of family; but you are not only superwoman, but your husband is superman. To bring the kids with you so they are near to you. It's a lot for all of you to deal with. Diapers, meds, feedings, etc. etc. I will think of you Monday morning and pray that all goes well. And as it's been said, enjoy being pampered even though it was because of a surgery YOU DESERVE it!! Good luck with you and good luck to your family in handling all the life's daily grind.
