Guest guest
Congrats on making the decision to go through this journey. Ruleof thumb it to not loose any weight before orientation because that is the weight they will use to determine your 10%. What location are you scheduled for orientation at? They do it fulling dressed - minus your shoes if you like. Also I wouldn't recommend continuing to take the diet pills. The program is going to teach you how to eat heathly and also the habit of mindful eating. Being accountable and really understanding the reasons why you eat. Hope some of that helps. Guest guest
Thanks ! My letter says I will be scheduled at South San Francisco. I am going to start taking a multi-vitamin. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on and all of the blogs out there. I haven't gotten the appt for my orientation yet. I can't wait. Where are you on your journey? > > Congrats on making the decision to go through this journey. > Ruleof thumb it to not loose any weight before orientation because > that is the weight they will use to determine your 10%. Guest guest
HI and welcome to our group. Before surgery any multi vitamin is ok. Post surgery you do not want to use the gummy bears your children are taking. The would get stuck in your stomach. There are a wide assortment of vitamins out there for post-ops. Bariatric Advantage is one that Kaiser has and it is a chewable. It isn't too bad. Right after surgery it is hard to swallow pills so you might want a chewable or liquid vitamin Once you are further out from surgery you will be able to swallow normal size pills again. Guest guest
Hi, ! I got my letter back in mid-November and had orientation Feb. 7, so you may have a bit of a wait from now till the next step. Don't begin to lose your 10% yet! When you go to orientation, you'll be weighed (clothed), and then based on that weight you'll be given a " goal " weight that's roughly 10% less. If you start losing now, your weight loss won't count - they'll base your 10% on what you weigh at orientation. However, you can definitely use this time to start making some of the other changes that will be important. If you smoke, start working NOW on stopping. If you're a coffee or soda addict, like me, then start cutting back on those things - you'll need to stop caffiene and sodas entirely by the time of surgery, and that's a habit that can take a while to break. If you aren't used to exercising, start that - a little bit at a time, but steadily. I actually lost about 5 lbs before orientation even without trying, because I began a water aerobics class back in January. Other people get a " Chair Dancing " video from the Health Education office at their local Kaiser and workout to that. . . whatever floats your boat. As for whether or not you could still be denied, yes, if they decided you had medical problems that made you a bad candidate for surgery, they could still decide not to go ahead with it. Or if you don't make the necessary lifestyle changes before surgery, they may decide that it would be too risky to proceed. However, if you start the changes now, it sounds like you'll be well on your way to that new and healthier you soon. Guest guest
Glad to hear you are in such good spirits. I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out of surgery, I was through Richmond Kaiser. I'm doing great, and headed back to work on Monday. Saw a co-worker whom hasn't seen me since I've been off, and he was like " wow you look great, your face is thinner " ... made me feel SUPER!! Guest guest
Welcome: You should keep working on healthy eating. You can stay on the appetite suppresant while you are loosing the 10%, but appetite is not a big concern when you get on the 1200 calorie plan. Good luck and keep an upbeat attitude, it will serve you better than anything else. > > My name is and I am just begining my journey. I just > received my acceptance letter. Guest guest
Thanks Cathy and ! I am praying for Gordy and I am encouraged at all of the other support I see here. I do have a diet-pepsi habit I am going to spend the next few months working on as I await my orientation appts. I know it is a long road, but I am excited just to have made the decision - and been accepted! I don't have any other medical issues, just a long family history of illnesses I am trying to avoid. My letter is dated March 3rd, so I won't start calling until middle of May... I don't mind waiting once I had a date to look toward, but waiting to be scheduled is the worst! Any reccomendations on the best vitamin to take? My kids have the gummi kind, are those okay post-op? I want to work in somthing I can make a habit. Guest guest
Wow! Am I the only one that is surprised to hear that Kaiser is prescribing Phentermine Diet Pills to it's prospective WLS patients? I have never heard of this before. I guess it would give you a jump start on your weight loss. I thought Kaiser was against all weight loss drugs. I was always told to eat less and exercise more. That just got me to where I am today--trying to lose my 10% so that I can have the surgery. I was also wondering why this is your 3rd time in the Healthy Ways class. Is it just one class or a series of classes? My surgeon requested me to sign up for a Bariatric Lifestyle Group, which I will attend in Richmond on the 27th. I'm not sure if it is a class or a support group. Either way I don't think we can ever have too much knowledge about this process and how our lives will be changing. I have already met with a nutritionist, had the Nutrition Class, Psych Evaluation, Orientation Class and met with my surgeon. He told me to call when I have lost my 10%. Hopefully, I will be given a date for surgery at that time. 14 lbs. to go......
