Guest guest
Hi My son has a problem with delayed gastric emptying. The most commonly used drug is Reglan, but it can have some pretty severe side effects. My son tried it, but had convulsions from it. Erythromycin is also used at low doses to help, but it didn't help either. The only other medication that we were told might help was Bethanocol, but we opted not to try it due to the fact that we could not get it dye free and my son is very allergic to dyes. Our GI said that the meds used for gastroparesis only have about a 50% chance of helping...we struck out, but hopefully your daughter will be lucky Willow Mother to Isaiah 2, GERD, EE/EG/EC, severe gastroparesis, hiatal hernia, suspected Dysautonomia, seizures, diagnosed 3/22/05 with Chiari Malformation...surgery soon! Guest guest
Hi , Myself and four of my kids (ages 6,8,21,24) take Reglan for delayed gastric empty. We haven't had any negative effects from it and it has been a tremendous help. We're also on Prevacid. Sorry to hear SK is having problems with this. Guest guest
we were given reglan for pretty bad delays. Honestly it did not help us, but we have heard it does help some kids....my son just underwent a pyloraplasty. this is a surgery that opens up the bottom of the stomach so that things go through easier. We are not sure how well this is going to work yet...still too early. Guest guest
My daughter Miranda has trouble with delayed emptying. She has been on Propulsid (which is now off the market) Reglan, Erythromycin and now takes Zelnorm, which does help somewhat. She is also on Prevacid and Zantac. Miranda is also Jtube fed so we bypass her stomach, which as a last resort for us, helps and is a better alternative to the TPN that she was on for a long period. Miranda has also had 2 Nissen fundoplications to help reflux and 2 pyloroplstys done as well but she still does not really empty. The Dr said all she has going for her is gravity at this point. -- Delayed gastric emptying Hi everyone, My 11 year old daughter is having trouble with delayed gastric emptying. Guest guest
, My son Lucas has had variable delayed gastric emptying. He had a G and J tube placed about 4-5 yrs ago because of delayed emptying. About 1 1/2 to 2 years ago his emptying was normal and we did 2 months of G tube feedings instead of J but had to return to J when he started vomiting his formula. For a time he was on Bethanachol but was eventually changed to Mestinon to also assist in slow motility. Lucas is also on daily milk of magnesia to help keep the intestines moving and this decreases his GI reflux. However since our unsuccessful G tube feedings he is G tube vented and has over 200 cc's of fluid dumped per day.
