Hi,

My grand-daughter Kaytie was born a with fatty cyst just like the one you show on your baby boy's foot. It was only on the one foot at the heel and was like a fatty ball, which could move slightly when pressed. It never seemed sore when pressed nor did it cause a problem when she began to walk. Kaytie is aged two years now and it is still there as it can be felt when you press it but is now very flat, rather like a scar on the heel. The paediatrician just kept an eye on it nothing more.

Kaytie also had problems with reflux when a baby which improved as she became older.

Ribs.

Regarding ribs. My daughter Amy, the above Kaytie's mum has a possible extra rib. Our GP suspected this but no investigations were ever done.

Dimple at base of spine.

My son was born with a rather deep hole at the base of his spine. This was called a dimple and we were told that this indicated that he narrowly escaped being born with spina bifida.

Our youngest daughter -Kay was born with a condition called Tracheo-oesophageal fistula and Vacterl syndrome. Dimple's at the base of the spine are quite common with children born with this condition as are spinal defects. -Kay has a curvature of the spine. In fact all my children have a curvature of the spine as well as myself.

Some time ago there was a discussion on my daughter's Vacterl web site about dimple's at the base of the spine and one mother was able to provide quite a lot of information. If you wish I shall try to find this and send it to you.
