Guest guest
Hello all, The Docs originally thought my 4 yo had a mito disorder. Therefore, he was put on CoQ10. We could see an improvement with him. We didn't know if it would have happened anyway but kept him on it since he seemed to do well with it. Then, the Docs changed their minds and decided his condition was Chronic Encephalopathy as the result of vaccine injury. They told us to continue the CoQ10 since it was helping him. After all, mito isn't the only family of disorders that it helps. A year ago, we (his parents) decided to try him without the CoQ10 to see if we could see a difference. We didn't know if what happened next was a coincidence not related at all to the CoQ10 or as a result of the missing CoQ10. After a week of not having the CoQ10, our son spiked a 104F (aka 40C) fever. His respirations were 60 and his heart rate was over 200. He was hospitalized for 2 days with the Docs scratching their heads why he was so sick. With IV fluids, he recovered. The Docs never determined the cause of the issue. This week our family was hit with Strep and treated with antibiotics since Tuesday. Our 4 yo seemed to be fairing the best with it. His temp never went over 100F (38C) until last night. ?? He had a temp of 101F (38.5C) when I got to him (crying). I gave him Motrin. He had violent shivering, not seizures. Been there done that. An hour after the Motrin, his temp was 104F (40C). As I held him that hour while he shivered, I noticed the rapid respirations again. I began counting them. They ranged from 24 - 60 per minute. I called the on-call Doc that instructed me to get him into the ER due to the issue last year. She said I could give him Tylenol before I went to see if that would help. But she wanted him evaluated. As I got the Tylenol, I saw his bottle of CoQ10 and realized we had been spotty about giving it to him this week. He has gotten it but not 3 times a day, more like 2 times a day. I decided to give him some CoQ10 at the same time I gave him the Tylenol. By the time I got to the ER, the temp was down to 100F (37.5C) with respirations normal. He was talking, playing, counting, and reading a book. Normal kid for him. It really made me wonder if the CoQ10 had ANYTHING to do with the fever and respiration issue as well as things getting under control. How could him missing doses of CoQ10 cause a high fever? I could see a pulmonary problem possibly but a fever? What is up with that? Is this all just coincidence? I am really not looking to play lab rat with him to find out FOR SURE. You know what I mean? I think the only way I would know for sure would be to again take him completely off the CoQ10 but I don't think I want to do that. Any thoughts or ideas from your neck of the woods? Last year when he went to the hospital, his GP that had stated he thought for sure it was vaccine injury called the ER and told them it was possible Mito. Thanks for any input you can provide.
