Hi members,

I was wondering if any of you in the Texas area could give me

some information. My family lives in Nebraska and our daughter with

mito is on a Medicaid Waiver that picks up what our health insurance

does not cover and it also covers equipment costs.

My husband has an opportunity with his company to be transferred

to McKinney or Plano Texas. Can anyone give me any info. on the state

of Texas regarding requirements for their Medicaid/Waiver programs.

If anyone could give me a name and a phone number of a worker to

contact that would be even better.

I recently returned from a visit in that area and just wanted to

say how nice I found it. Thanks for any information you can provide

me with.

Regards,

Kim

Hi Kim :-)

We'd love to have you down here!!

Unfortunatly, unless you qualify financially for SSI and get medicaid

that way, you've got a long long wait to get on the medicaid waivers we

have here. There are actually two of them but there is a 7-10 year

waiting list for them. We've been on the wait list for almost 3 years

now and are still more than 6,000 people down on the list.

There are several programs that can help a little with costs, but cover

no where near the amount that Medicaid will pick up. We're dying

financially here at the moment because of this very reason. :-(

Sorry to not have good news in this!! I am, for the first time

ever, really wishing we could move to another state JUST to get the medicaid

coverage and have some hope of stabilizing financially.

I'm afraid you can cross Indiana off the list of candidates. We've got a

7+ year waiting list, too, with things likely to get worse because our

state is so broke. The Medicaid budget is really taking a hit here.

We're lucky enough to have waivers for the girls, but we're expecting

cuts in services and holding our breath.

Hi :-)

I hate hearing there are other states out there in as bad a shape as

ours in this respect!!! I'll be praying the cuts in services are

manageable and not too deep. Thanks for letting me know Indiana is

not an option.....I really do think about making a move at times!!

We've thought about moving, but for other reasons--lack of jobs and

wanting to be closer to good medical care. But we've always felt like we

couldn't because we might not get the girls on services in other states.

Plus, if we ever wanted to move back, the girls would go to the bottom

of the waiting list here. It drives me crazy that Medicaid isn't

consistent from state to state and that you can't transfer your

eligibility and benefits if you move.
