Guest guest
Columbia Presbyterian has been doing fresh muscle biopsies since 2002. I was one of the first patients to have one done there. The initial tests from the fresh sample come back within a couple weeks. The other ones take much longer and I still don't have a complete report. All in all, I am happy with my care there. I guess I'd better be happy since I travel from Florida lol.
Guest guest
Hi , You know, I spoke to the clinic coordinator for our Genetic doctor yesterday about not being able to get a fresh biopsy done in NY. She said that she went to a Mitochondrial conference last August where this speaker gave a one hour long talk on the fact that it really doesn't matter if it's fresh or frozen. This speaker said that they freeze it anyway because it's easier to work with. Ugh! I don't know what to think now. I think your suggestion was a very good one though, and I'll have to mention it to the clinic coordinator. Thanks! e *Ü* -- Re: Doctors at Columbia University I would have a tendency to want to go to a place where you can get a fresh muscle biopsy. You can do that in Atlanta and not in New York. You could start in Atlanta, where you can get a diagnosis only, not treatment and then you could go to New York. I would certainly take both boys. If your unaffected boy is autistic he may not be unaffected. That would be neurologic involvement. There are a lot of people who have no symptoms until they are adults.
