Guest guest
Is double vision a mito symptom? My daughter is having problems when she reads, or later in the day when she's tired. Kim
Guest guest
It can be but I would really recommend speaking with a neurologist to make sure it isn't something more serious. I have had some pretty strange eye problems myself and know what a pain it is. I hope she isn't having migraines with it because I know many people who have had double vision say they do get them with it. Guest guest
She doesn't have migranes. My 15 year old and I do. I got an appointment with an eye doctor that specializes in eye muscle problems, and sees kids. It's not until the end of the month. Guest guest
Kim, The condition is called acquired strabismus. It is a symptom of many of the mito illnesses. I know a lot about this because I have had 3 surgeries in regards to Strabismus. It is like lazy Eye but the muscles behind the eye are not working together. When I was young they had know Idea what was causing my Headaches and stomach problems. After years and many tests I had 2 surgeries on one Eye and it was great for about 20 years then a few years about I had a reoccurrence and I had another surgery on the other eye. Even in these days when I get really tired and watch TV I have problems or try to read when I am really tired. When I needed the surgery at night I could do much of anything but go to bed. Having said all of that. We never thought or knew about mito diseases when I had all the eye problems. It was the first symptom that Elijah had so I had him to a doctor checking for it right away. They couldn't tell us for sure what his eyes were doing. Now that my Eli has been diagnoses with Leigh's and looking through family health issues we can blame mito for a lot and yet we can't at least prove it. We still don't know what genetic breakdown that Eli has so no one else can be tested for the same thing unless they know what they are testing for. I might have mito I might not. I don't really worry about it. It might just be a fluke. Strange but this condition happens a lot with car crash victims. The muscles behind their eyes have died or become very week. If your daughter does have this condition the eye doctor will know it. You might mention to look specificly for symtoms of strabismus. It can be helped with glasses and other times (like mine) the problem is great and requires surgery. If that is the case it wasn't a big deal when I was 10 and it wasn't a couple of years ago. I will pray you and your daugter get the answers you need. Ann (Eli's Mommy)2years old with Leigh's http://www2.caringbridge.org/co/elijahkurtz/index.htm > > Is double vision a mito symptom? Guest guest
Ann, Thank you for your reply. I've had prisms in my lenses since I was a teenager. It really helps me. Maybe if the prisms work, surgery isn't needed. When I was a teenager, I was told my right eye especially turns in some, but it gets worse with use, so I assumed it's muscle fatigue. If it is more muscle fatigue, can that be helped with surgery? I'm glad you say the surgery isn't a big deal, but it makes me nervous. The thought of my daughter having it makes me even more nervous. Hopefully the prisms will work for her. Thanks, Kim > > > > Is double vision a mito symptom? Guest guest
My son wears prisms to prevent double vision and help with eye teaming. His depth perception improved a lot when he first started wearing the prisms. >
