Guest guest
so sorry to hear about Zach. We were told last year that Max should not go back to school. It is hard to accept. If it keeps her safer than it was not a question for us. The antibiotic that Max is using is called Bactrim or also Septra. Accoroding to her immunologist, she has had kids on Septra/Bactrim for years with no resistance development. We use Augmentin only as an extra for potential secondary infections. Actually, max hates Augmentin and will vomit most of the time. She loves the taste of Septra. How lucky can we get. Because Max had multiple occurrences of pneumonia , her respiratory system is very compromised. Max does not live in a bubble. We do a lot preventive care. The most important one to not have anyone come to the house that is sick. Be it a runny nose, cough, etc etc. She can not totally prevent Zach from being exposed, but you can reduce the risk. Handwashing, having Purell around, the car, the house the kids play room...it does help. Also, if the doctors recommend for Zach not to return to school, you can get help from your local school district. I do not know where you live and it may not be much, but they should provide something. And then there is homeschooling. None of this may sound good to you. Zach will still have quality of life. You may just have to adjust to a new kind of normal. None of this is easy. It is a hard road to be on. We make the best of it. Remember, Zach's respiratory system is his life line. rosy, mom to max, going on 6...
