EP Disability Awareness Nights 2005: Ticket Info for NJ Nets, Curve, Chiefs

This year marks the fourth year of EP’s Disability Awareness Night (DAN) program. The program began in 2002 with two professional baseball teams, at Yankee Stadium in New York and Fenway Park in Boston. It grew to 14 teams in 2003 and, last year, 26 professional baseball teams in the major leagues participated in this unique, emotional and powerful program of recognition and awareness. In 2005, the program has branched out into other sports arenas, as we will be holding recognition ceremonies at several NBA games, in minor league baseball parks, at Grand Am GT Series racing tracks and an ECHL hockey game with the stown Chiefs.

In addition, on May 23rd, The National Baseball Hall of Fame and EP Global Communications are jointly sponsoring DAN at the Annual Hall of Fame Game in stown, NY. This event will salute returning veterans who have been disabled as a result of combat in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. At the ceremony, the Commanding General of Walter Medical Center will be on the field to honor two veterans and their families for their dedication and sacrifice. Following the game, EP will hold a reception at the Otesaga Resort Hotel.

For people who areinterested in attending some of the events, ticket information can be accessed by clicking on:

The mission of EP Global Communications' Disability Awareness Night is to expand awareness of the 54 million Americans with disabilities by highlighting their extraordinary achievements and the perseverance and dedication of the families, caregivers, physicians, nurses, therapists and teachers involved in their care and development. The presentation of the EP Maxwell J. Schleifer Distinguished Service Award (named after the founder and former editor-in-chief of Exceptional Parent magazine) at each DAN signifies the remarkable accomplishments that can be achieved under difficult circumstances.

DAN operates with the cooperation of: The EP Foundation for Education, Inc. (“EPFE”), a 501©(3) not-for-profit corporation; the League of Dreams, a 501©(3) not-for profit entity dedicated to making baseball available to all children, the able-bodied and differently-abled; the Run, Jump & Throw Program, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing fitness programs to young children, able-bodied and disabled, in elementary and high schools across the nation. As with last year, Mass Mutual is one of EP DAN’s supporters in 2005.

The AADMD Selects Exceptional Parent Magazine as Its Official Publication

The American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD) has selected Exceptional Parent (EP) Magazine as its official publication. Starting with the June issue of EP Magazine, the two organizations plan to offer CME accreditation with peer-reviewed articles written by physicians and healthcare professionals. The AADMD and EP Magazine have collaborated on a number of projects, including On-line CME and CEU accredited professional educational seminars, educational monographs, national research projects and the World Congress and Exposition on Disabilities (WCD). Each of these projects has led to greater success, greater outreach and a greater understanding of the issues surrounding people with disabilities.

The message from The American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD) reads: " Because of Exceptional Parent Magazine’s track record of success, their unwavering dedication to people with disabilities and their strong commitment to health care, the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry is proud to announce the selection of Exceptional Parent Magazine as our official publication. In the months ahead, we plan to offer CME accreditation through Exceptional Parent Magazine with peer-reviewed articles written by physicians and health care professionals with extensive experience and backgrounds in science, medicine and developmental disabilities. We expect our outreach efforts to grow in size, scope and frequency in the coming years and we are confident that Exceptional Parent Magazine will be able to provide us with the proper leadership and support for us to reach our goals.”

Introducing Max and Friends

Max and Friends: Volume 1 is a multimedia skill building program for children with autism and related disabilities. The innovative package uses a children’s television program (on DVDs), story books and music to present proven therapy-based exercises in a fun, simple format for children with special learning needs.

" Max and Friends is a wonderful product. So many videos and children's programs go by at breakneck speed. Max has a wonderful pace for all children, especially those with ASD, for whom the slower learning pace is essential, " said Diane Twachtman-Cullen, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Editor-in-Chief, Autism Spectrum Quarterly. Developed by a team of autism therapists and children’s media professionals, Max and Friends can be used to help children with special learning needs develop core skills, but is fun and entertaining for children of all developmental levels. Max and Friends is organized into volumes of related skills. Volume 1 focuses on Imitation, Commands, and Matching. Each skill is the focus of a DVD and an accompanying story book. The package also includes an instructive manual designed to train parents in teaching, maintaining and generalizing the skills as well as a CD of eighteen children’s songs.
