Guest guest
HI Anne, So glad you got out of there before they sedated your son. My son Matt has been having EEG's since he was 15 months old for seizures, mind you he also has ADHD and PDD-autism, and never ever has he needed sedation. When he was younger i would hold him in my arms on the table while they glued the electodes to his head and now that he is older he has been able to lay there himself just holding my hand, and the tech always ask every 5 to 10 minutes if he needs a break, (the smell of the glue is God awlful). I remember when he was 3 years old they did an overnight sleep study with EEG study and we used melatonin to get him to sleep that night. But no heavy duty drugs. We had this done at ST s Hosp. for children in Phila, Pa. Maybe you can find a place or childrens hosp that will do the EEG this way, so wont be in any danger. By the time Matt was 4 years old we always did a 24 hour EEG, they would wrap his head in gauze and the unit that records episodes is no bigger than a hand held tape player, which is also wrapped in the guaze on top of his head, and we would come home for 24 hours and then return to the hospital to have wires and unit removed, and Matt was never worse for ware, and actually just glad he didnt have to stay at the hospital and could come home where he is comfortable. Hope this helps. Barb
