Guest guest
magnesium works wonderfully- Question about middle of night migraines. Hi All, I have been waking up in the middle of the night with migraines that are severe and then carry on into the daytime, and hard to get rid of. I do not get them during the day, only at night. I asked our family doc and he strongly suggested an MRI, which I don't want to do if it's not serious as it's more medical debt. I am wondering if they are just tension headaches as I have tightness in my neck, and certainly tension or allergies, and I just wondered if anyone else experiences them at night. They are very painful and hard to get things done the next day, so I am looking for any home remedies to try. The best thing I have taken over the counter is a product called BC powder, a combination of aspirin and caffeine, but that's probably not good long term, and I can't fall back to sleep after all of that caffeine. Thanks, Joni
Guest guest
Sheldon gets migraines that start in the middle of the night. We haven't quite figured it out but one theory I have is that they are caused when he gets even a small amount of MSG. Either that or when he doesn't eat enough right before bed. Guest guest
We have had a lot of night time migraines in our home. One of the top reasons have been because of pillow issues. Some of our kids need to be elevated quite a bit or they get headaches, I get them if my pillow is too flat or too full (have to have it just right-LOL), and of course we have had the more serious concerning type of migraines (like in Asenath) that seem to trigger during the night hours. We have found the middle of the night and very early morning hours have begun the most for Asenath. We aren't sure if blood sugar issues were the problem or if her acidosis levels were higher at that point of night, or what. All I know is that time period was the worst! I think there are TONS of reasons why a person can get a migraine during the night so if you can't weed through different reasons and try to fix things (like pillow/bed issues) then you may want to put your mind at ease by following the doc's instructions and do the MRI. Hope you find something that helps get rid of them. Guest guest
My best thought would be tension or caffeine withdrwal. Do you drink alot of coffee or pop during the day? I have always had horrible headaches and migranes up until lately when I began nursing . He cannot tolerate the caffeine so I had to cut down to only one cup of coffee in the morning, and I'm now drinking caffeine free pop. Believe it or not, but I am rarely getting bad headaches or migranes, and am in even more stress now than I was before. Best wishes Try the new Beta version of MSN Messenger - it's FREE! Guest guest
Dear Joni, I, too wake up in the middle of the night with migraines! Like you, mine only start in the night. I have no idea why this happens, and I have never been given any answers. I take Imitrex for my migraines, but they have been happening more frequently lately, that I want to get on some preventative medicine. If you hear anything else about possible reasons why, would you please let me know? Thank you! e *Ü* -- Question about middle of night migraines. Guest guest
I get them as well. I also have SLE's. BUT...Generally 800mg of Motrin, some ice and rest and then I am good to go. I wont say it is gone, but it does help. Iwas told my headaches seem to be hormones going crazy, but they are not positive... Also I do have blood sugar issues as well. I have found recently if I take B2 as Dr. Korson said (600 mg a day) it does help ALOT. Make sure you are well hydrated before bed, and make sure you keep a small drink by your bedside ( I keep soda) to help with nighttime thirst which seems to be getting worse. I find the soda kills a headache with the Motrin. I hope some of this is of help....I firmly believe the timing of headaches at night has to be related to BS readings...mine go crazy!!! and have the MRI. It was by the MRI and the neuro dr that I was diagnosed with an ASD. He saw tiny blood clots behind my eye. had nothing to do with the migraine but I found out something very important. Guest guest
I have had several middle night migrains, i had a sleep study done that did show some sleep apnea, and was told that could be the culprit to the waking in middle of the night migrains, but this has not been proven as fact. I have stopped the intake of any caffeine and sugar, and my favorite chocolate, and have seen an improvement, my son is taking b-2 supplement and periactin for his migrains and we've seen improvement with him too. When i do wake with migrain at night i cup my hands over my mouth and breath that way and it reduces my migrain, ive also used o2 and that also helps eleviate the migrains not only at night but also in the daytime. sometimes nothing works, which makes my docs wonder if its lactic acid levels. My MRI didnt show a reason for migrains. I hope you find a solution and answer soon. I say try everything till you find what works, or you find the answer why. Guest guest
Joni > our family doc and he strongly suggested an MRI, I was told when i was having a lot of migraines that if you wake up with one thats ok (well as ok as a migraine can be) but if they actually wake you up from a sound sleep then there is more of a concern. Mine always woke me up so I had to have the MRI. > They are very painful and hard to > get things done the next day, so I am looking for any home remedies > to try. i always have fairly good luck with Caffeine too. There are some herbal things I've personally used with pretty good success if you want more info on that (probably should email directly) but I don't know how they effect Mito (I'm not symptomatic at all my son is still just suspected).
