Guest guest
Thanks Shivani. I was in touch last year with one of Australia's top scientists who has had numerous peer-reviewed studies done showing similar results. I wo9nder wheather there is a connection between babies who have had ultrasound and ES or any other health problems? ultrasound during pregnancy Sara asked about this. My doctor (an American MD who now gives no drugs, relies on Classicall Homeopathy and nutrition a la Fallon & Price) says that whatever part of the fetus is developing at the time of an ultrasound is affected by it quite negatively. If I remember correctly, he said that the fetus also seems to react in ways that signify it is uncomfortable during the ultrasound. I am not sure that I remember that point correctly, but am positive about the first statement. Shivani
Guest guest
It's been so long since I've researched it-- but the basic thoughts that I have, is that it hasn't been proven to be SAFE yet. The long-term effects of pro-longed or excessive U/S tests done is UNKNOWN. I truly believe it's best to avoid as many of these as you can-- and do them when it's medically necessary or if there's any serious health issues for the mom or baby that's happening. I am one who does the " non invasive " tests ONLY, so unfortunately, since I do not do those invasive tests such as the amniocentesis, I know that my overly-medical-thinking OB/GYN always insists that we do the U/S, and I can understand this, so I will usually comply with 2 " quick-see " U/S tests in the pregnancy and that's it. Guest guest
I thought there is something potentially at issue though. The reason I say that is way back I read an article on those places where they can take pictures of your baby in utero. It is a digital thing so maybe it is an electromagnetic issue there not present in ultrasounds. I don't know. > > When I was filling out my geneticist paperwork, it asked how many > ultrasounds I had and any problems found. I had 8 with Landon. Guest guest
I am currently in a dilemna. And this is a hot topic - i'm hoping this group would contribute anything they know. I am 17 weeks pg w/ #2. I already have a boy (although not officialy dx) on the spectrum insofaras; global dyspraxia. We have been with DAN - classic metabolic and immune dyficiencies, Heavy metal toxicity. All healing through introduction of BIOMEDICAL INTERVENTION. Traditional therapy in our case was a waste of time and money. Since I have no alternative I see am subjected to mainstream conventional medicine. But, this Mommy is not rolling over this go around. The ultrasound issue is a HOT one. I had 2 look sees in the first tri. I don't really have an issue with what I call " look - see " . Quick and simple. At 11/12 weeks - dates were off - I went in for CVS. After a 20 minute ultra sound. Measuring and remeasuring - all of which was silly since, the bottom line was the baby was in a position that prevented a vaginal CVS and this Dr. (unbeknown to me) was uncomfortable doing abdominal. So, because mainstream disregards studies that point to ultrasound being not so " safe " as we are lead to believe... I was subjected to unnecessary ultrasound. The Dr. invited me back for an amnio 2.5 weeks later. So, with that, another 20 minute measure and remeasure. All I got other than my own pesky questions was " make sure you get the 20 week ultrasound " . I asked my OB - are their any red flags? Why were they so insistant on another ultrasound? And I questioned him on the safety of so many ultrasounds. (I had already read - see link) He did say he knew of one woman who participated in a book/study and her placenta was literally burned - she couldnt' dilate and had to have C-section. And I ask, " well, how was the child " . Answer: " Child was fine " . But, to date, no one from his office has EVER asked me, how my son is. So, he doesn't really know other than the child looked fine on that day. http://www.icpa4kids.org/research/pregnancy/ultrasound.htm Does anyone in this group have any more info? Guest guest
The theory is that it is potentially harmful to a fetus. When US was first used as a baby monitor it was considered routine, that it was " only a sound wave " . More recent findings show that the sound wave converts to a mechanical wave in the body, which can potentially do harm. I would be more concerned with how long they kept the monitor on. A quick medical check of the baby's heart vs 24 hour monitoring during labor is a lot of difference of exposure. Of further alarm is the fact that a female fetus'es ovaries are being exposed to this, which are already forming livelong ova. Some think this phenomenon has played into this generation's rise in neurodevelopmental disorders. Many of this generations parents were monitored with US themselves when their mothers carried them, and it was potentially overused. As a parent all we can do is avoid future over-use. > > When I was filling out my geneticist paperwork, it asked how many > ultrasounds I had and any problems found. I had 8 with Landon. Guest guest
This is not a dilemma. This is your baby and body. Go to the doc who wants the 20 week ultrasound and ask what the concern is. If it is something you can live without knowing, no US. If not get it. Come on ...you are not bashful. I am slow in processing for real and even I know that. Hang tough and ask your questions. If they look at you funny either keep asking or allow for the uncomfortable silence to force them to answer. This is not doc bashing by the way. It cannot be fun to be fearful of horrible things for another person. Thing is technology has made us all paranoid. These docs have not lived through what you have with your first child so they don't know what you can handle. It is that simple. > > > > > > When I was filling out my geneticist paperwork, it asked how many > > > ultrasounds I had and any problems found.
