Guest guest
I took the advice of many of the families on this site and switched doctors for my son. We were with the 1st doctor until our son was about 10 months old. We were just not happy with his progress and felt that the doctor was not aggressive enough in his treatment, nor did we feel that he set our son's cast properly. So we found a Ponseti doctor at Children's Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Mooney suggested that we have the surgery again and go throught the series of castings. Each time we went in for surgery, the doctor was able to set his foot without cutting him (while he was under). We did this 3 times over a 9 week period (I believe). His foot looks beautiful! We were thrilled when the final cast came off. We are so thankful for everyone that offered advise from this site. Thank you!! I again need advise. On Friday, Brenden got his cast off and was put into the Mercell shoes and bar. I think that is what they are called. I read some emails in this room that suggests the shoes. My first question is, how many different options are there with these shoes? And why don't they tell you that there are other types available? Do you get the shoe that the doctor prefers or the shoes your insurance will pay for? I just want the best, most comfortable shoes available. My second question. Brenden doesn't want to put any pressure on the bad foot. It has only been 4 days since the cast came off. Is this normal? Third....how long should I expect to get zero sleep? He just can't seem to get comfortable. Any suggestions on how to make them comfortable? Should I try to let him sleep on his tummy like he is used to? Any help with any of the questions above would be greatly appreciated! Jodi Grewe Brenden 15 months old
