this is a good article on MELAS, it is a bit advanced as far as

medical terminology goes, but if you scroll down to the HISTORY

section, it goest hrough alot of the symptoms...

corner of page) wher eyou can find info and links on all the

different mitochondrial disorders...

the website itself is a huge resource for parents...

We got some useful info from these sites

My friends daughter had her 12th birthday. What a great day we had;

out to dinner with 15 friends and a big birthday cake. She then had to

travel over 100 miles to the hospital to have a scan on her spine, then

back the next week to have talks with the neurosurgeon.

She didn't feel well yesterday, she has days where she vomits and has

headaches but then feels well for weeks at a time.

Now my friend has received a letter from the school to say that after

the routine eye test and abnormality has been found in both eyes of her

6 year old son - this is another worry for her - could this be related

to MELAS? We don't know. Could an abnormality just mean that he is

short sighted?
