Guest guest
I understand your concern abut Zachs reaction to the antibiotics. Pneumonia is a very serious illness. Even more serious for our kids. It goes after the respiratory system. Mito kids many times end up with pneumonia after having a simple snotty nose real fast. This is likely the reason your doctors have Zach on aggressive antibiotics. Having multiple pneumonia's will permanently damage the respiratory system. Take Max for example. Because she did not get the antibiotics right away, today her respiratory system continues to decline. That is why she will go on to a ventilator next month. She now takes Septra , also marketed as Bactrim, twice a day. Every 28 days she receives an IVIG infusion to protect her from viral as well as bacterial infections. So far that is working very well. Knock on wood. She has not been hospitalized since last October. The truth is, if and when she will have the next respiratory infection, no one is giving us any guarantee as to how she will do. So, that brings us back to the issue of is it important to go with the antibiotics. From this Mom: you bet! About Augmentin...Max takes Augmentin on occasion to fight off secondary infections. Augmentin must be really awful, because it does Make her vomit, depending on when I give it to her. She has actually told her pulmo she does not want that white stuff. We are looking to replace it with something else. About Disneyland. It is not rude to ask by any means in my book. I would also take the antibacterial wipes no matter what. The mask for the plane is a good idea. If you can get one for kids with a cool design, you might get Zach to actually put it on. Once they were the right color, Max did put them on. About being tired....it takes weeks to recover from pneumonia. It might be a while for Zach to be back to his usual self. Energy spurts are short. Also every time Max got pneumonia, it took longer to recover. Hope all this helps best regards rosy, mom to max, nearly
