Guest guest
Dear Sponsors and Friends: Wow, I made it! 14 miles in 2 hours, 48 minutes! We stayed on pace through most of the run, but miles 10 and 11 were really fast!! We did them in 8 mins, 30 seconds and 9 mins, 30 seconds respectively. My pace group is supposed to run an 11 minute mile, moderate and easy, so as to avoid injury. We took miles 12 and 13 a little slower, then we breezed in perfectly for mile 14. We were so lucky with the weather. And it didn't rain, yet it was cool—perfect weather for running. It was an awesome run, and if you can believe it, I didn't even get a blister. We started out at Ocean Beach, ran through all the beautiful parts of Golden Gate Park—the Buffalo Paddock, Spreckles Lake, The Soccer and Polo Fields, Stow Lake, the Japanese Tea Garden, the de Young Museum, the AIDS Memorial Grove, the Bowling Greens, and the Conservatory of Flowers—and then through the Pan Handle, and the Sunset District. We ended up back at the Dutch Windmill in Golden Gate Park and feasted on bagels, cream cheese, peanut butter & jelly mini sandwiches, oranges, fig bars, pretzels and Gatorade. After the food fest, we headed to the beach where we soaked our legs for twenty minutes in the icy waters of the Pacific. It's amazing how this helps to avoid soreness. We had a great time. Next weekend we will recover with a 7 mile run. Then we'll ramp it up again in two weeks for 16 miles! That will be a milestone for me as it will be the furthest I've ever run. Wish me luck! But all this fun would be empty if it were not for the cause we're supporting. It's great to know we are helping people with HIV/AIDS. The money we are raising will support HIV services and prevention programs in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties—to help keep people alive until there's a cure. A portion of the funds will also support treatment access in the developing world. As you all know, I have surpassed my minimum goal ($1700) required to complete the National AIDS Marathon Training Program. And the money keeps rolling in. Guest guest
I'm glad to hear you're doing so well in your training Francisco, but it doesn't surprise me at all. Apparently, you are a born runner. Congratuations in your successful runs and fundraising abilities. If I'm able, I'll be at the finish line of the marathon to see you cross it. We'll see... but I know YOU'LL be there, regardless. Ron Francisco's Marathon Update--April 10, 2006 Dear Sponsors and Friends:Wow, I made it! 14 miles in 2 hours, 48 minutes! Guest guest
Ron: Thank you so much for your support! Me? A born runner... wow! I never thought of it that way. Just 3 years I would have said, " No way! " But I guess I've just proven that old assumption wrong. Sometimes the running is just so much fun that I forget where I was before gastric bypass surgery. What a blessing this process has been for me. I am so incredibly lucky. When I see morbidly obese people now, I say to myself, " I know your pain. " And I hope that they too are able to find their way out of the self-imposed prison. Funny, when I went to KSSF orientation a couple of months ago (on a Tuesday when I was going to Gity's Tuesday drop-in support group), I felt a couple of looks as I entered the room. There was a feeling of, " Who are you? You must in the wrong place. " Then Gity introduced me to the group and the feeling changed from " you're-an- outsider " to " you're-one-of-us. " Anyway, thanks for your support Ron. You also have mine. Francisco > > I'm glad to hear you're doing so well in your training Francisco, but it doesn't surprise me at all.
