The autism symptoms are highly likely given the unexplained link with mito and autism. Many of the kids on this list have these symptoms or the family has one kids with a very medically involved kid and then a sibling with autism. There are drs studying the link but they dont know why.

If I were you, I would ask for a behavior consultant to do an assessment. I would get an independent one if possible vs one through the school system. If the teachers have imput, I would present that to the doc too. I would give the Behavior Consultant some information on mito and autism and get her to write a report and present it to your doc. If he is still resistent you can always pull my favorite line out..."Please put the report in the file and then explain in writing why you are denying its validitiy". Usually that puts them to rest.

You could also ask to see a Neuro and see about medication.
