Adult Mito?

I am looking for information on adult mito disorders. There is so

much information about mito that I am feeling a bit lost. I am a 30

year old female.

I have had bizzare symptoms over the course of the last 12-18 months,

and have been tested for the usual culprits, diabetes, thyroid,

hormone, MS, arthritis, lupus, syphillis, Fibro, Chronic Fatigue, etc.

It started with noticing I could no longer sit through a movie at a

theatre because I would become very stiff/sore and some sensory

symptoms. I chalked it up to having the flu. Several months later

(April of 04) I went to bed fine one night and had a stabbing

sensation behind my left eye and the symptoms just snowballed from

there.

I accidently came across on article on Mito Cytopathies and emailed

it to my PCP. His response was that he believes I am " on to "

something but is basically clueless (his own words) about mito and

diagnosing it. He is doing some research of his own, but I would

like a better understanding for myself.

I suffer from fatigue, some days debilitating, I seem to have IBS

although not diagnosed and it seems to go in cycles predominatly with

dirrehea, I was diagnosed with internuclear ophthalmoplegia with

optic atrophy and occular migranes, I suffer from uncorrectable

double vision and have intermittent episodes of blurred vision. I

have had speech problems (misuse and slurring of words), visable

muscle spasms and twitches sometimes severe, some myclonic activity,

sensory symptoms, incoordination difficulties (I have fallen several

times), and I sometimes have a difficult time understanding written

directions. I saw a previous post about pain in the balls of the

feet to the point you almost can't walk, I have also experienced

that. I also have no patellar or achilles reflex in my right leg.

The only symptoms that are constant are the vision issues, the

fatigue, and the muscle spasms. My symptoms become worse after

activity-even a simple trip to the grocery can lay me out for hours.

There is some history of mito problems on both sides. I have a

maternal uncle with Parkinsons, and my aunt and my mother have both

experienced similar symptoms to mine, although their symptoms have

not been debilitating. There is also a maternal history of Mitral

Valve Prolapse/syndrome. My father was diagnosed with Myasthenia

Gravis a few years ago. I have had asthma since childhood, and as a

child suffered from severe food allergies and was lactose intolerant.

I don't expect medical advice, but I would appreciate some thoughts

on which types of mito disorders/disease/syndromes that could cause

the symtpoms I am experiencing. I have had the basic lab work up

(CBC, Metablolic Profile, CPK) and the only thing that showed up is

that I am borderline malnurished, and elevated IgG levels on a West

Nile serum cross-reactivity test. None of the doctors/specialist I

have seen believe any of my issues are related to the West Nile Virus.

Any thoughts or direction would be greatly appreciated!
