Guest guest
O.K. is now 6 months old and relatively speaking very healthy. He is in the 90th percentile for weight, 75th for height, so obviously nothing wrong with growth. Remarkably he is now just getting over his first illness, a double ear infection (I'm impressed he made it 6 months with 4 siblings, and never got sick.) However he has a very sore tummy and I don't know why, for sure. He has always been fussy but he did have a time where it got REALLY bad. I did the typical elimination of his diet, and mine (I'm breastfeeding) to find out that, at least I think, he is gluten sensitive. His really bad time was when I introduced oatmeal, and it took two weeks to figure it out. I and him are now gluten free, and he is great. I do notice that when I slip (my husband brought home Girl Scout cookies) the next day he is back to screeming with extreme gas. Now for the dilemma. I had him to the pediatrician today to recheck his ears. She had told me at the last appt. that she was going to contact a GI to find out how to test him for gluten sensitivity. She informed me today that the GI stated that it is impossible for him, at his age, to be gluten sensitive. I was so sure about this, up until today. Is she right?? Now I am also worried about the possibility with mito in him. Grace also started off with food intolerances, but much more extreme and she was much younger. She also had more physical issues. Grace is Carnitine defficiant as well, and we realted many of her food intolerances to that since they dissapeared after she started Carnitor. Has anyone just noticed food intolerance as a sign of Carnitine defficiency? My pediatrician did refer him to the GI, but we cannot be guaranteed it will be Gracies unless we wait until the end of May for an appointment. looks, and now acts like a perfectly happy baby since we are now gluten free. I'm praying a new GI does not blow this off, and I am not willing to make him sick again by starting back with the glutens without some hard core evidence that glutens are not the culprit to his problems. What tests do I need to ask for? Obviously I want a gluten sensitiviy test, and I think I will request Carnitine levels. I think that if he did not have the sister, he has we would blow this all off as a baby thing but I know we can't with the family history we now have. I really don't "think" has mito, but I am now thinking we better make sure. UUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH With MSN Spaces email straight to your blog. Upload jokes, photos and more. It's free!
