finally got to see a GI, at Cleveland Clinic regarding his tummy problems. We were very fortunate to get one of the GI's who have worked on Gracies case in the past, and was familiar with her issues (to compare). Thankfully she does not think he is following in Gracies footsteps.

She seemed rather convinced that either has Celiac disease, or just a simple allergy to wheat products. Since he is already gluten free we decided to wait until he is older to test. At 11 months I am to reintroduce wheat in mass quanities for a month. At 12 months we are going to run all the bloodwork for Celiac Disease (and basics for mito again, just in case). She said that they will be able to diagnose him as Celiac Disease with out a biopsy, if the bloodwork is abnormal since he has had a very positive responce to avoidance so far. If his bloodwork is normal, she said it is/was most likely a normal wheat allergy and that hopefully his immune system will "forget" the allergy with the 6 month strict avoidance.

I am hoping that this is just an allergy, and his system will forget it with the avoidance. She said it is very common for babies to overcome allergies if the parent diligently sticks to the avoidance diet. On my behalf she did say that I should continue my diet without breads and pasta, but I do not have to totally go gluten free since the breastmilk is very filtered. She did not think it will hurt anything if I just have to have a cookie once in awhile. YIPEE! I definatly would not want to stop nursing just because I had to go gluten free, but knowing that a little slip here or there won't mess up 's diet.

She was also able to give me some good ideas on teething foods that we can try, since he can't have the Zwieback toasts or anything I have used on my other kids for teething.

Overall a good trip, thanks for letting me share some good news.
