Guest guest
HI everyone, and I just got back from the GI's office and she seems to think that has some reflux and that is why he vomits the way he does. While we wre there I told her that we are waiting for the biopsy. She went into the computer to see if she could find anything and there were several reports. Under this one part it said something about 60% of something was found in the sample and also as I skimmed over the report it said 'no abnormal mitochondrial' about something else. Is there a " normal " mito and an " abnormal " mito? If anyone might have any knowledge of this please let me know. I may drive myself CRAZY before our appointment on the 25th with the mito specialist who should give us the final diagnosis if this turns out to be mito. Thank you for listening,
Guest guest
I'm sure someone else will be able to explain this better- but in each cell there is mitochondria. Not all mitochondria have to be abnormal in order for there to be a problem... for example, our daughter has partial complex 1- only 30% of her complex 1 mitochondria are abnormal. It was found that the rest of her mitochondria functions normally. le > > HI everyone, > and I just got back from the GI's office and she seems to > think that has some reflux and that is why he vomits the way > he does. Guest guest
Im not sure about the specifics, but s muscle biopsy showed 'No Abnormal Mitochondria' as well, however it also showed a Complex 1 Deficiency... I dont know how it all works, but an absence of abnormal mitochondria apparently doesnt rule out a diagnosis of mito... Guest guest
Mitochondria can be mutated. Being that he has "normal" mitochondria does not mean he does not have mito. Many types of mito are from being deficient in one or more of the chains of mitochondria, regarless how they look. Other forms of mito may have normal levels of mitochondria, but they are all mutated and do not work as well. In cases like my daughter, she is deficient in 4 of the chains and 100% of her mitochondria are mutated. Try not to read into it too far. These things are very complicated and it takes the mito doc to interpret the results and explain it. Best wishes With MSN Spaces email straight to your blog. Upload jokes, photos and more. It's free! Guest guest
What sort of test do they do that tells you what percentage of the mitochondria are abnormal? No one gave me that sort of information with Sophie's results. The report just says that she has Complex I, III, and IV deficiency. Guest guest
Thank you !! I know I only saw a portion of the reports and not the part that said DIAGNOSIS so I WILL NOT stew on what it said and try to wait patiently for Monday. I should have remembered about what you wrote because I have done so much reading on Mito. However when you see it like they write it I didn't understand and I only got bits and pieces of the info. wrote: Mitochondria can be mutated. Guest guest
I don't think they go into it unless there is a mutation. If she has the deficiency in the chains, that is her type of mito. I wish I understood how some of these can predict the severity of the disease. With Grace, her pathology report was horrible (100% mutation, and deficient in 4 chains,) but she is doing so well. I guess that is why we have mito experts!! Download your favorite songs at MSN Music - Over 1 million songs for just 99¢ each
Guest guest
, Thanks for the info. Sophie's showed deficiency in 3 chains. She's doing great overall too. She has Roseola right now so she's really sleepy, pale, no appetite, weak and her balance is just awful. Hearing how Grace is doing so well gives me hope that Sophie will too.
