Guest guest
First off, I'd better introduce myself, short, sweet, and to the point. Yep, that's me. I was on this list before as Stacimom. Our story's on the UMDF website, or google Staci Echert. I'm finally ready to return to the mito list, to rejoin the fold. I now use my mother's maiden name + my maiden name. Four years ago I didn't have enough symptoms for my docs to consider mito. Now, who knows? Anyway, that's not important. I intend to pitch in, squeak up if you will, when something I read reminds me of some experience we had. So, here's my first at bat Staci had a very bad cataract in her left eye, and another in her right eye. The pedes opthamologists had watched it grow, until they could not see back to her retina. That's why she didn't pay attention to things on her left... she couldn't see them. They usually don't like to remove cataracts when the kids are still in Kindergarten, but one had to be done, so they did the other one too. They chose the proper lenses, so she went from not being able to focus past her own fingertips without glasses to only needing reading glasses. Yep, Kindergartener with bifocals. We made the mistake of requesting they do a second muscle biopsy while she was still under anesthesia. Boy, was I ... perturbed... when I found out it hadn't been a fresh biopsy! But, the cataract surgery worked wonders. With mito, so many things come into play to cause problems. You can't scare me, my kid has mito. Hugs, Have any of your kids had any vision/eye problems? Sophie has started crawling into things, bumping things on her right side and her right eye will move from side to side or look crossed when the left eye seems ok. This is just one more thing that's making me a nervous wreck about what's happening with her right now
