Just to note on the "other" products they offer. Grace has the hat, neckband, wristbands, the pillow insert, the teddy bear and the wheel chair pad.

Hat: well in short, it is ugly. If you can just get the cooling pack, I highly reccomend them. We just get Gracie a cute baseball hat one size too big. The cooling pack is in a terrycloth sleeve that velcro's into the hat.

Neckband: Highly reccomend it. It has the phase changing cool packs in it, and keeps cool for quite awhile.

Wristbands: Not too attractive, awfully big for toddlers. They do not have the cool packs but you soak them in cold water. We got these late in the year, last summer and have yet to try them out. Pillow insert: Great idea. It does not get too cold, just remains cool. We only have window air conditioners so this is a good help. They are soft, but kinda heavy. Actually we put them under Grace when she sleeps. Unfortunatly during the summer she has to sleep in the living room (since it is the coolest), otherwise I would stick it under her sheets.

Teddy bear: Cute!!! You just put him in a plastic bag then throw him in the freezer for awhile. He stays nice and cool, and nobody can tell that he is actually serving a purpose. I would not reccomend this to a child with very little strength, as he is rather heavy (3+ lbs.) and it may cause frustration not being able to play with him.

Wheel chair pad: O.K. Grace is not in a wheelchair, but we use it for her carseat and stroller. It is actually rather comfortable to put as a chair back or pad. It stays cool for quite awhile and a great thing for getting into a hot car.

They also have a mister pump thing on the website. I can't remember exactly how much they charge, bu they sell the same thing at Wal Mart for 10 bucks. I did not see it until late in the year but we are definatly getting one this summer. Obviously having all of this may be overload to alot of kids, but they are good things to pick and choose from. Grace got all of this after the heat stroke last year, but I think this will help prevent another one. With all of this, though, we still have to be extremely carefull. Grace has still overheated with her cooling vest on, fully cooled. These products give us more freedom, but I still don't think we could ever visit the zoo or someplace like that on a really hot day. At least we can go to the park for a little bit now.

Best wishes

I've been following the postings on the cooling vests and called Heat Relief Depot. (website www.heatreliefdepot.com)

Their children's customized cooling vests are $129. They do offer a medical need discount of 10%. The vests also come with two sets of cooling packs. They take your child's current measurements and add growing room to them so it will fit for more than one season. In and Lindsey's case, along with those of you with smaller children, the lady did say that because the vest is so small, the cooling packs will only last 1 to 1 1/2 hours versus the normal 2 1/2 to 3 hours. The cooling packs can be "recharged" in icy water in 20 minutes. Since these are custom-made, it does take 4-6 weeks for delivery. She also said you can order anything else on the website and receive the 10% medical need discount. They have a lot of cooling products.

I hope this helps!

Hi ,

I want to thank you so much for all the info on the cooling

products. I need to order something soon, actually more for Dalton

(my undiagnosed son) than for Craig. Dalton overheats so quickly

and had some seizure-type activity at those times last summer. I

had questions about the different products and you answered them.

THanks!

Also, I was able to go back and read your post to me (anyone with

similar symptoms?)at the yahoo website. I didn't realize it wasn't

coming through only in the email digest. I was so glad to read it,

and have to process what Dr. Cohen told you. I find this genetic

stuff so confusing! I thought if both my sons and I had mito it

would have to be maternally inheritied? But, I guess, there are

other possibilities?

Any input on this by anyone is welcome.

Thanks so much for your informative posts!

Donna H.
