Guest guest
Hi all, I sent the post yesterday about the special ed kindergarden classes because of the feeding issue. Thanks for the person that replied. I had not looked at it that way or had that idea. I just would like to know if anyone else's children are in special ed? If so is it because of their eating? melissa Mom to Maddison
Guest guest
hi melissa!! my son christopher is in the elementry school preschool disabled class 3x a week (this is due to his possible ADHD and the need for some slight OT) and he attends a regular preschool 2x a week. next year he will just be in the preschool disabled class 5x a week. they both are really good at giving him extra snacks as needed while he is there. good luck!! jodie (nicholas-6 nonrss, christopher-3 rss 23lbs 8.5 oz 33 " periactin, ght genitropin (on hold until july), ADHD (possible), assmentry(left side 1cm), johnathon-11m nonrss) > Hi all, > I sent the post yesterday about the special ed kindergarden classes > because of the feeding issue. Guest guest
Hi - My son is 4.5 years old and is in special ed preschool three days per week and in daycare two days per week. He will be in there again next year and not start kindergarten until he is 6 since he has a late birthday. He will be in regular kindergarten as far as we know. His preschool class is comprised of 6 " peer models " and 6 special ed students. It is quality program run by the county school system. In West Virginia all county school systems have to offer preschool - 12th grade by year 2012 and our county is doing it early. Anyhow, Dominic qualified because his fine motor skills were delayed, along with some of his gross motor skills and slight attention problems. I don't feel he has any gross motor delay and I really feel that his attention problems will improve when he has a little more time to mature. They do make sure he eats his meals but are not as good about encouraging him to eat the snacks. I am going to make sure they do a better job with the snacks next year. Good luck! F. (mom to Dominic, 4.5 years old, RSS, GHT, Prevacid, periactin, 25 lbs - we hope, 36-37 inches) > > Hi all, > > I sent the post yesterday about the special ed kindergarden > classes > > because of the feeding issue. Guest guest
has been in a special ed class for the past 2 years, and it has been great for him. We tried him in regular kindergarten and 1st grade, but it was really hard for him to keep up with the other kids, with his fine and gross motor delays and speech problems. He was getting very frustrated and actually hated going to school. Note that has more significant delays than many RSS kids, possibly because of his prematurity (he was born at 29 weeks, 1 pound 9 ounces and critically ill). Also his RSS wasn't diagnosed until age 2, and he may have suffered hypoglycemia episodes before that, affecting his development. Furthermore, he has moderate-severe hearing loss in both ears, unrelated to RSS. He wears hearing aids, which help him to hear almost normally, but that has certainly affected his speech and language development. Anyway, we found a wonderful special ed class for , with a caring, nurturing teacher who really got him to enjoy school and live up to his potential. He now reads almost at grade level, and writes well (although very slowly). This past year he was " mainstreamed " into regular ed classes for reading, social studies, science, music and art. Next year he's moving on to a higher level special ed class for kids with mild learning disabilities, and he'll continue mainstreaming. He still gets lots of therapy, including OT, speech and adaptive PE. He plays in a special soccer league, and last week he won 3 medals at Special Olympics! - Joe > Hi all, > I sent the post yesterday about the special ed kindergarden classes > because of the feeding issue.
