Guest guest
Hi, Cyclosporin is a potent immunosuppressant. It has been used in trials for severe GO and showed some benefits, but it's not been widely accepted because of the side effects, need for careful monitoring with blood tests, etc. Steroids are more often used to suppress the immune system in severe GO. The ophthalmologist I interviewed for my eye book felt that eye dryness was related to a lack of fluids and essential oils. Studies show that essential oils restore eye moisture so I think this would be a much safer approach. Hope you keep hanging around here, Zoey. Since you achieved remission so nicely you have a lot of good info to share with others. Spent too much money in NYC to get to CA soon, but I definitely have it on my list. Take care, elaine
Guest guest
Hi Elaine, Fortunately I don't have dry eyes but know many people who do. The possibility that it might be auto-immune related struck me as interesting. You need to get your book publisher(s) to pay for you to do a book tour. Maybe Amazon or & Noble would do it if not the publisher. I'm serious! I've been spending less and less time at the computer the past few months and I like it that way. It's hard to keep up with my life and work when i keep indulging in these wonderful Boards. Please know that I'm thinking of you and with all of you in spirit even when I'm not reading or posting. Best wishes to all, Zoey
Guest guest
Hey, I have had real dry eyes, and have just added Omega 3,6,9 oil to my diet. I had been eating 1/4 flax seed daily for a year and figured I was getting enough of the essential oils, well, two weeks ago I added a tablespoon a day of oil, (I just spoon it in, like medicine, gets it over with), well I haven't put drops in my eyes for over a week, and today I had a project at work that I dread, usually with small print, and takes about 3 hours to do, I didn't need my reading glasses and no drops at all. My eyes feel great. Jen M Dry eyes & Antibodies????? > As long as I'm back visiting, I thought I would pass this along. > > Several days ago I had a conversation with an opthamologist and others in which dry eyes and eye irritations were discussed. The opthamologist said that in some instances, dry eyes were the result of an autoimmune problem where antibodies were possibly attacking the tear film or something. He didn't know what antibodies and said it had nothing to with TED or thyroid antibodies. He said that when artificial tears didn't work, they sometimes use the immunosupressant " cyclosporin " . > > I have never heard this before and wondered whether anyone here has. ELAINE????? Might cyclosporin be of any help to people with thyroid antibodies? I think it has been tried with arthritis and MS. > > Just curious. Guest guest
Jen, No need to take it like medicine unless you wish it that way. Flax seed oil can be added to salads, a helping of veggies or other foods if they're in a bowl. The kind I use (probably Borleans) tastes rather good - sort of nutty like. What you describe is a huge improvement. Keep up the good work. Best, Zoey
