Quick question -

Can hypO cause NO periods at all?

While I await the results of my blood tests (and my GD is in

remission) I've missed 2 periods in a row. I'm not pregnant (test

confirms and hubby had a vasectomy anyway) and I'm only 38 (too young

to have hit menopause).

I'm asking because if not, I damn well better get to my GYN ASAP.

Thanks in advance.

Believe to be in a hypO state now

Are you hypo? How did you get that way - on ATDs or by RAI? (Just read

your post on your results so there's the answer. It sounds like you may

be hypo and TSH might be interesting to know.) PCOS may be a possibility

as well as peri-menopause. Recently I read something somewhere about

Graves antibodies and ovaries. One more thing to look into.

Take care, Fay

Hi All,

I missed 6 months worth of periods only to have them back in full force once

the Graves was treated. Now I'm bordering on hypo (while on tap) and am also

late.

I thought maybe menapause was upon me at 47 but now I'm not sure.

My thoughts- get your thyroid hormones stabble and then try to figure it out.

Hi , Fay and Sherry-

I read a couple of studies of hypothyroidism inducing polycystic ovarian

disease (PCOS) which can cause an absence of periods. One case was of a

girl that became hypothyroid (autoimmune induced) and was diagnosed soon

afterwards with PCOS (which is thought to be autoimmune in nature).

However, PCOS was also induced in rats when their thyroids were surgically

removed which had nothing to do with autoimmune disease. In both instances,

the PCOS seemed to be associated with hypothyroidism. On an anecdotal

basis, PCOS seems to be often associated with hypothyroidism rather than

hyperthyroidism.

Both of the studies I mentioned could easily be criticized if one tries to

make a link. One was only a case study (1 person) and the other was on rats

not humans. However, I think there might be something to this. I have PCOS

and never had a problem until I was kept hypothyroid for many years. The

PCOS was diagnosed long after I didn't have a thyroid anymore and only after

we had been trying to get pregnant for years.

I sure wish they'd study it more thoroughly.

Take care,

---,, Yes, hypo people , depending on how hypo the person

is can loose their periods for a while or have very scant periods.

I wish there was an exact science to this. Seems that after we

hypo people have a period their is alot less bone aches and for sure

a lot less tension in the body. Today my Doctor office just called

and said my new TSH went more normal, now 2.67, it was HYPO last

month at 5.67. I'm still having a hard time getting my period it,

starts but very little, maybe its still adjusting from when I was

HYPO last month. Sincerelyn, Evelyn In California All the best

wishes to everyones improved health!
