Guest guest
hi Nick. Have you tried ATDs at all? Surgery is a fine option under certain circumstances, something I wouldn't say about RAI (which is an absolute last resort after at least several years of good attempts at other treatments). Still, it may take some time to get everything in order to have the surgery done - e.g. find the most qualified dr., work out insurance, etc. - so it might be a good idea to go on ATDs till then because untreated Graves is dangerous. If the ATDs work, why bother with surgery? The normal starting dose for ATDs is 30 mg./day for Tapazole (methimazole) and 300 for PTU. Some people need to start at higher doses but still, if your dr. starts you on a higher dose do make sure s/he's not doing it solely as prep for RAI. You want to make it clear that you're committed to making the ATDs work. Take care, Fay ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Surf the web up to FIVE TIMES FASTER!
