Guest guest
Hi, Can someone tell me if these levels are alright? TSH 0.13L range(0.47-5.01) Is this hyper? My Endo(actually only got a hold of receptionist) said they were normal now and to get tested in 2 months....I have been having severe starving symptoms and hypoglycemia, heart racing(between 104-130 when racing, not too bad) so thought for sure I was hyper...anyway had the lab fax my results and they wrote " abnormal " on them..so wanted to make sure my endo didn't mess up. I am 12 weeks pregnant so my symptoms could be from that. Thanks to anyone that can give me input. Jen
Guest guest
Jen, The TSH level take a long time to change. Your Doctor should include T-4 Total, T-3 Uptake, and T-4 Free tests. If these levels are High then you are probably HYPER. Check other entries and you will start to see a pattern. Mike. Original Message: ----------------- From: jennifer jenlevi@... My local lab no longer offer total T4, it isn't that useful a test. These day fT4 and fT3 assess thyroid function accurately, and fairly reliably, and basically obselete all the plethora of thyroid this and that uptake and index, even if my nurse hasn't quite caught up with the interpretation of these newer tests. > If these levels are High then you are probably HYPER. Pregnancy complicates the whole thyroid (and immune system picture), my advice ask the endo " why abnormal is acceptable " , or ask for a second opinion from a reproductive endocrinologist, and do it promptly as the stages of pregnancy move fast. It may well be that the TSH result is nothing to worry about, and is " normal " for pregnancy, but at the very least this endo should have taken the time to explain why it is nothing to worry about (since it is obviously worrying you). So don't panic, or worry unduely, but do pursue an explanation, and I suspect it will have to be from a professional. Good as some here are on blood tests, I don't think any of us are reproductive endocrinologists, and even those who have had babies after diagnosis with Graves' probably haven't experience of more than one or two pregnancies. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE+sl+EGFXfHI9FVgYRAhG1AKDSIFN3h6QUGc+iXy/kBECEoXZHwACeLMyI gVKeB7jPUifBbM560Zu8JrU= =64S0 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
Guest guest
Hi Jen, It sure would help if you also had FT4 and FT3 results. And it's important to note if your TSH was higher before and now has dropped, which would be more significant than it's staying close to what it was. Is this your resting heart rate? Like after 10 minutes of rest? If so, you might want to mention this to your doctor. Soon, your thyroid levels will be falling and your immune system will also slow down and it could be that your doctor is anticipating this and wants to prevent any chance of hypothyroidism. Usually someone in the office screens lab results to make sure the doctor doesn't miss anything while reviewing them. Since the range for TSH is usually 0.3-3.04 the screener would have stamped abnormal. But being TSH is often suppressed in early pregnancy, and you may not yet be secreting TSH adequately, your doctor probably doesn't consider this significant. Hope this helps. Take care, Elaine
Guest guest
Mike, I hate to be disagreeable, but have to chime in here: Total T4 and T-3 uptake are meaningless, antiquated tests. they have been supplanted by Free T4 and when necessary, Free T3 tests.
