Guest guest
Hi Betty, One thing I just remembered is hearing that immediately after RAI, as you are now, it's helpful to drink lots of water to clear out your system. I bet vitamin C would help too but I'm guessing on that one. As Fay said, the flaxseed oil and other EFAs (like the more expensive " Eggland's Best " eggs at the grocery store) are really helpful. For the flaxseed oil it's worth going to the health food store and paying for the bottled stuff (in their refrigerator). And someone probably already said this, but you should be sure your doctor checks your levels very soon, as people can get hypothyroid quickly and need to start on thyroid replacement. Guest guest
make sure betty doesnt leave! radioactive iodine--Betty Hi Betty, and welcome, I can't give you any answers on what you're going through as I'm on a different form of treatment but I wanted to say hello. The weekends are kind of quiet but as the week starts up you should be able to get some advice here. Of course, you did what your doctor advised, so he (she) should also answer your questions. Even on the weekend the office should have someone on call. There's no reason you should have to go through this without your doctor's help. The Graves' group on Mediboard.com currently has a thread posted about radioactive iodine, which might give you some answers as well. It's hard to keep from worrying at times like these but if you can be relaxed your body will have an easier time healing. And both here and on Mediboard you'll find lots of people who've had the same treatment, as it's the favorite choice of doctors in the U.S. (My own endocrinologist's partner had Graves' and chose RAI. She told me that it was the logical choice for her and for me.) Best wishes,
Guest guest
Hi Betty- Sounds like you may be stormin'. If you have beta blockers- call your doctor and see if you can take them as you need them. Usually taken like that in 1/4 to 1/2 doses at a time. Also, (and Elaine would know more about this than I do), but your doctor might have given you some atds to reduce the storm that often follows RAI. If not, you may ask for them to get over the rough part --> that's if you're not already going into hypoT. Hope that helps- Sherry
Guest guest
Sherry, thanks for the info. After the initial problem with the eyes, they are kinda ok. They are watery and tired feeling. That was so scary, when the eye balls dialated so much that I couldn't see much white around them. How weird? I am on 100mg of Atenolol. What is " stormin " ? Forgive me for asking, but I am so new to this. Thanks Betty In a message dated 5/4/2003 9:55:51 PM Eastern Daylight Time, Andow2000@... writes: > > Hi Betty- > Sounds like you may be stormin'.
