i know to make the list run more smoothly we aren't supposed to post stuff

like this, but:

LOL!

not laughing at you, but, rather, your delivery

Re: ATD's and antidepressants

hmmm, I normally took Paxil for my PMS which only made me wanna choke the

life out of somebody, but I ran out.....never got it refilled? Funny thing

is, I am not having any periods since my #'s reflect hypoT from

hyperT/graves, but I ain't trying to grab anybody around the throat

lately.....and I feel better than when I was really bad hyperT. Interesting

that you mention it, cuz I'm a lot calmer now? Even my co-workers think I'm

getting back to normal....

Hello, Maribeth

My situation is a bit different than your friend's. I was already

taking Desipramine and had been for three years when I was diagnosed

with Grave's Disease. So far, I have not had any apparent drug

reactions with Methimazole, Inderal or Armour.

Here are my lab results:

(R:230-420) (R:.87-1.57

Date Treatment Free T3 Free T4

11-30-02 Tincture 1227 5.49

01-02-03 Methimazole 30 mg 705 2.88

01-28-03 Methimazole 30 mg 424 1.56

03-01-03 Methimazole 17.5 mg 256 .83

04-03-03 Methimazole 12.5 mg 240 .55

Started B & R after the lab results on 04-20-03 with 60 mg Armour.

I started off with 160 mg of Inderal to control my palpitations and

now, I take 20 mg as needed. I still get heart palpitations on

average every other day, once or twice a day.

The only drug that is actually listed as having an interaction with

Desipramine is Inderal and it is not on the " avoid " part of the list,

but on the part where it says the doctor needs to monitor possible

interactions.

I had asked my doctor if it would be a good idea to eliminate the

Desipramine just in case, but he was hesitant to make any drastic

changes before getting the Grave's under control.

Hope this helps your friend.

Best wishes,

54 years old, diagnosed 8.20.03. Currently on B & R Regimen, 60 mg of

Armour for two weeks, switched today to 120 mg.

Re: ATD's and antidepressants

In my case, I have been on Tap for the past 2 weeks, and tried to begin

Effexor XR within a few days of beginning the Tap. (I had been on PTU for

several months prior.) What I found is that the Effexor made me WAY too

tired - I have taken it in the past and don't recall this being the case,

but most of the SSRI antidepressants do make me sleepy. I had only gotten

to take 37.5 mg. of the Effexor XR for a total of four days... I can't seem

to take it right now. I was supposed to increase to 75 mg. within 3-4

days... no way. I will have to wait to see what my Dr. thinks about what to

do next. Others??? Barb
