What a handsome guy! He looks a lot like my son, under Matt H, I

think. Matt has a very thin face, too. But he is not RSS. I know

as kids get older it is harder to distinguish as their heads get more

in proportion to their bodies.

I just wanted to make sure that AJ has had the stim test. I know

there is some kind of simple blood test to look for markers of Growth

HOrmone, the IGF's I think. But the stim test is a 6 hour test (if I

remember right). He has to have fasted and then they put in a hep

lock to draw blood from. Then they give him medicines to stimulate

his pituitary to secrete growth hormone. Then they draw blood every

hour or so to measure the amount of growth hormone he is secreting.

Matt's is normal, but in SGA/RSS kids they need more than their body

produces. SOme kids can qualify for Growth HOrmone without the stim

test, but your son's birth measurements would be too big for that.

The FDA just approved growth hormone use in short stature kids

without any identifiable disease, but I have not heard the latest on

insurance coverage for those kids.

Anyway, just wanted to make sure you had the long stim test and not

just a simple blood test.

Are you sure you did not sneak into my house and take a picture of

Max???? Wow! Your son looks amazingly like mine! Red hair, low

ears, glasses.... I think Max's face is a little fuller, though. I

was so shocked!

actually a very light brown with some blond in it but when I looked

at it the picture again it does look like his hair is red in it.

No, I have not posted a picture of Max in a long time. He was

struggling with having his picture posted on the listserve for

awhile, but I have not asked him lately. I'll try to remember to

ask him tonight. It's hard with teens - they change their minds so

often and have specific likes and dislikes. I'll let you know when

and if he lets me post one.
