Guest guest
Hi , Most people who cannot tolerate one ATD do fine on the other. Also, liver enzymes are often elevated in hyperthyroidism and they're elevated by meds that are metabolized in the liver, such as ATDs and cholesterol-lowering meds. Studies show that this is usually related to high doses. Your doctor can give you drugs known as beta blockers to reduce cardiac symptoms and symptoms of anxiety while you're deciding on treatment. A good web site for lab tests is www.labtests.com Do a search for Graves' disease, and you'll find information on thyroid stimulating immunoglobulins (TSI) that you can share with your doctor. TSI cause Graves' disease by mimicking TSH and stimulating thyroid cells to produce excess thyroid hormone. Your goal in treatment is to reduce both thryoid hormone levels and heal your immune system, thereby reducing TSI production. You shouldn't be made to feel as if you have to rush since this will add to anxiety. The meds I mentioned are often prescribed in GD to help keep symptoms in control. Avoiding iodine and incorporating stress reduction will also help.
