Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I am new to this group and just taking a few minutes to look at some of your discussion & photos makes me wish I had discovered something like this years ago. My daughter was born with RSS and has just recently graudated from college with her teaching degree. Although small, her size was never seemed to stop her from doing what she wanted to do. She was always popular and had the respect of her teachers & classmates. It is only now that she has graduated and is trying to make it on her own that she and we are starting to see signs of discrimination because of her size. One very frustrating problem we have encountered is finding health insurance for her. She is either turned down because of the RSS or because she is under 4'10 " although she has been healthy all her life other than the normal childhood illness that most kids get. I guess my question is: Has anyone with older kids that have RSS encounter the same obstacles with health insurance. If so, what did you do. We are going to try to look into Medicaid since dwarfism is considered a disabilily, but we're not sure if she will qualify for that. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks, Klover
Guest guest
Dear Klover, I am an RSS adult, who luckily hasn't had a problem with health insurance yet (there's a great grad student union here - yeah!). Please invite your daughter to join a similar yahoogroup that's just for adults with RSS -- it's called RSS-People. There are around 25 of us and maybe someone there can help... (one of the women there is an elementary school teacher, so they'll have something else in common too!) -Ana (RSS, 27yo, 4'8 " )
