Guest guest
Do any of your kids have sleeping, behavioral, and emotional problems? I was at a new doctor yesterday with , and he proposed something that sounds interesting. He wants me to ask Dr. H about it at the convention. He thinks that administering GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate) will increase the amount of time in stage 4 sleep in which GH is secreted. He says the average child spends 8-14 minutes in stage 4 sleep, and the optimal amount for GH secretion would be 50 minutes in this stage. When GH is secreted, he says dopamine, seratonin, and norepinephrine is also secreted which can help with behavioral/emotional issues. He spoke about 3 medications to use, but there are some serious reamifications with the use of at least one of them as it is a newly FDA approved drug for patients with cataplexy, and basically works like rohipnol (roofies) does. Two of the medications would be given at night to produce a very sound sleep, and one in the morning would be used to wake up refreshed. Does this make sense to anyone? Does anyone know of any research that has looked at increasing the amount of stage 4 sleep to prolong the time when GH is secreted? Kim C. Guest guest
Kim, I haven't heard of this but would be very interested to hear more about it! Storm has great trouble going to sleep at night and generally gets up at least once every night, (sometimes more). He does have some behavior and emotional issues. (Mostly anger outbursts). I would really love to know what Dr. H says about this! It sounds definitely worth looking at!!!
