Guest guest
If your child's school participates in the federal school meal program, gfcf meals are available at no extra charge. This is separate from the IEP, comes from the USDA, and has nothing to do with what the school may think of the idea. The applicable law is the ADA, not IDEA. The office that administers the program will have a form to be signed by the medical practitioner, listing the foods to avoid and acceptable substitutes. While there may be a risk of cross-contaminiation, in our case the meal program contacted every food & seasoning provider to get gfcf status in writing. The cafeteria manager was so thoroughly briefed on cross-contaimination issues that I thought he would stress out. And Ian's meals are kept completely separate. Usually, he eats the same basic foods as the other students, but weird goopy stuff isn't poured on top of it. I have the menu, so - for example - if the kids are having tacos I can send tofutti or soymage for Ian to sprinkle on it. Or a gfcf bun for the beef patty. He is not being teased about it. In fact, other kids are jealous because he gets through the line faster and has better looking food.

No one can beat her gfcf chicken nuggets. Our son only ever gets his nose out of joint if everyone else gets " real " pizza.> A kindergarten teacher recently had my dear wife in to give a presentation on healthy snacks. 70% of the kids didn't eat raw vegetables ever. >
