Guest guest
We are headed to Disney World in a couple of weeks for vacation. My eight year old son Forrest (PDD-NOS) has been on the diet for two and a half years. I'm planning on taking pre-made snacks, having dry ingredients pre-mixed for bread, donuts, muffins (we will have a kitchen where we are staying). My son's diet is fairly limited (he won't eat meatm fish, vegetables or fruit - I juice things and slip veggies into his bread items - We also rotate corn, soy, rice and potato). In case I forget anything does anyone have suggestions on a GFCF-friendly grocery store near the park? I am interested in other people's experiences at Disney World and any suggestions that they have to make the trip a success. Thanks in advance, Deborah

Thanks in advance Deborah, Just about a week ago, Otken-Dennis posted a FANTASTIC note about foods and restaurants in Disney World. We go there fairly often, so I saved it for our next visit. Look at message #66698 on 5/8. Have a great trip! Sue
Guest guest
Deborah, We have the advantage of living in Florida and live only about 1 1/2 hours from the parks. So we take advantage of going quite a bit. I generally bring some cereal, rice milk, lunches and snacky type things. I also bring a small 6-pack cooler and refreezable ice packs. I then freeze the packs in the " freezer " section in the frig and take the cooler into the parks during the days stocked with GFCF foods. There are no utensils in the rooms, so remember a knife or spoon, small bowl or whatever you may need. I also bring little sandwich bags I can separate food into for the day. Mornings we generally have cereal, but we have on occasion stayed at a Disney hotel where you can order room service. If you give the hotel 24 hour notice they can have a GFCF room service breakfast for you. We have also gone to the character breakfast and again with 24 hour notice they will have a GFCF meal for you. Or if you want to go to a character breakfast, with 24 hours notice they can accommodate you. All of the parks have a baby care center and in these centers are kitchens, changing tables, nursing rooms, and a small room with tables/chairs and (of course) a Disney movie playing. These are great little retreats if the park is getting overwhelming or they just need some down time. It is also great to heat up a lunch in their microwave. A hostess is there to help you. I generally bring hot dogs to heat up in the microwave, but be careful the microwaves are really powerful! Again, Disney just tends to be extremely wonderful and helpful. A few of the parks have Mcs, but do not count on it being open. I have gone into the parks and at times the Mcs counter has been closed. If they are open, this is a bonus since a large order of french fries can be quite tasty! But each of the parks does have fresh fruit you can buy, popcorn that is airpopped with just oil, and 100% strawberry fruit popsicles. None of the walk up counters can really accommodate the GFCF diet, but I just heard recently they were trying to change this. Any of the sit-down restaurants can help you at the parks with 24 hours notice. We generally do not sit-down much because it's time consuming and can get expensive. With so many things to do at the parks, you don't want to waste too much time eating! One restaurant Liberty Taven was particularly helpful at Magic Kingdom. Chef Dennis went above and beyond making a wonderful meal and even had GFCF " ice cream " with a GFCF chocolate sauce he made special for my daughter. There are soft drinks & bottled water all over that you can purchase to drink. You can also get a special pass with a doctor's note to allow you to bypass the lines. I would call in advance, they may have changed the need for a doctor's note now. I know Chamberlins Health Food Store is fairly close to the parks, but have heard from another parent it wasn't really worth the trip. If you are flying, you can check a large cooler filled with GFCF foods and just duct tape it closed. Call your airline to check their specifications. I hope this helps!
