Guest guest
The trampling issue is about our biggest worry with having Olivia at school but we just got some more good news! At the (hopefully) last case conference we discovered that Olivia qualified for another 1 on 1 aide. The last 2 years at school she has had a 1 on 1 aide to help with everything but with Olivia being so independant the aide didn't have to do much for her in the last few months. Now at the new school she still qualified but we have it written the the aide will not " hover " over Olivia but just be aware of her safety and redirect her for proper OT/PT practices. For out of classroom safety the aide is going to focus a lot on self awarness with olivia like waiting until the herd has passed and then going down the stairs, etc. It really puts my mine at ease to know that there will be someone watching her around the big doors and climbing equipment outside! Have a great day!!! Leah, mom to 9yrs and Olivia 4.5yrs, RSS, OI, 19lbs, 33 "
Guest guest
Leah, Congratulations on the new aide! The " no hovering " piece will be great. It sounds like Olivia is a lot like Abby, very independent - she likes to do things on her own without interference. Focusing on the self awareness angle sounds like a wonderful idea. Teaching our kids to watch out for themselves is one of the best ways to protect them. Your message reminds me I need to work more on this with Abby. We took a quick trip over the weekend to do some fun things with the kids and were constantly on alert trying to keep the kids, especially Abby, protected. Other kids, and adults, just don't seem to realize how small she is and that she can easily be trampled. This is especially so when you get a bunch of tourists together trying to fit in everything they want to do!
