Hey all,

I was just catching up on posts and I was reading about how a few of

our kids use the unique way to crawl. With heads on the floor and

pushing with their feet. It is so neat to see how it is a

commonality with our kids, since their heads are so heavy for them.

They are so determined, and come up with the most amazing things to

help get themsleves around. I just had to comment. I ma always so

floored and amazed at how SMART and creative our kids are! Isn't it

funny how they did the same crawling?

Always amazed,

Hi

Just wanted to add my amazement at our kids, Liam did this bulldozing

or as we called it ' bottom crawling'.

However, if any of you read our recent posts on Liam falling and

hitting his head alot, we went to see a physio, for advice.

We got some great ideas, one being that normal crawling on all fours

is very important to childrens development and that we should be

encouraging it even now. Crawling develops neck muscles to hold even

the biggest heads( it just may take longer for our kids to do it,

Liam can now)there is also the balance thing because they co ordinate

all four limbs to crawl. The physio suggested encouraging crawling

through tunnell and obstacle courses for Liam and his pre school is

helping us out with it.

Im not saying dont let them bulldoze, its all they can do, but dont

forget to keep trying the other crawl, it does have a place in

holding their heads up. Hope this makes sense.

Have a good day

Jody(mum to Liam 9.8kg 80cm 3 y/o and Cameron)

Just to reitterate what Jody said. Our therapists told us the same

thing. That " normal " crawling is a very important part of

strengthening for kids. They had us encourage to crawl too.

So, eventually he did do it, and it did help him stregth wise in the

trunk, neck and arms. So, like Jody said, let them bulldoze, but

also imitate how to crawl, too.
