Guest guest
Hi Prue, while you are waiting for your doc to put you on meds you could go check out the ithyroid.com site and see if you want to start taking some vitamins - I found this helpful in the beginning... and if your doc hasn't put you on beta blockers or ATDs yet, but you are having really bad symptoms you could try hawethorne berry for rapid heart rate and palpitations, and there is an Amino Acid called L-Carnatine that blocks the use of thyroid hormone at the cell level which will help you to feel better though it won't mess with the labs - you will still have all the extra hormone floating around in your body, but your body won't be using it. I guess I probably have to say you should do these things with a naturopath who understands them though - that is how I learned about them at any rate. If you are having eye symptoms - swollen puffy eyes - then flaxseed oil or another Omega 3 supplement will help with that. Caffeine, chocolate, sugar, alcohol, and iodine are the big things to avoid for now... and cold medicines and herbs that stimulate the immune system. Hang in there - things will get better once you start treatment. Pam B. http://www.webmosaics.com/thyroid/ -- Advice for a newbie!! Hi everyone. I am a 48 year old woman, diagnosed with Grave's disease on Tuesday last (5/13/03). I am waiting for a scan to make sure there are no abnormalities in my thyroid, so I am not on Meds. Can anyone suggest dietary or lifestyle changes that will assist in relieving the symptoms in the meantime? Any suggestions gratefully received. I feel a little lost and lonely.
