Guest guest
Hi , Here's a quote from a post Elaine made to Mediboard; I think it answers the question of which antibody tests to get for autoimmune thyroid disease. If I leave anything out, hopefully someone else will straighten it out! " There are three types of TSH receptor antibodies: blocking, stimulating, and binding TRAb. Stimulating TRAb are the same as TSI. These antibodies all bind to the TSH receptor. . . . Most people with autoimmune thyroid disease have a combination of TRAb. The type of TRAb that predominates at the time determines if you're hyper or hypo, with TSI [stimulating TRAb] predominating in GD. But over time 20% of people with GD quit producing TSI and start producing blocking TRAb. " So I guess the proper tests would be, separately, for stimulating TRAb and blocking TRAb. (I'm not sure that whether there's a need to test for binding TRAb.) Best wishes, B.
