Guest guest
Hi. I have a question regarding labs. My T4.Free, T4.Total and T3.total are normal range, but my TSH is 0.06 compared to normal values-0.49-4.67. I have the eye disease in one eye and my doctor referred me to an Endo. I am on no meds because he said these results don't merit it. Can someone help me to understand. Donna
Guest guest
Hi Donna, When thyroid hormone levels are normal and TSH is suppressed, you have a condition of subclinical hyperthyroidism. This means that your pituitary recognizes that you have more than enough thyroid hormone for your body's needs. So it stops releasing the regulatory hormone TSH. Normally, TSH regulates your thyroid hormone levels, and it's released in constant little pulses. Normally, TSH orders your thyroid cells to produce thyroid hormone. But seeing you don't need its help, the pituitary slows down TSH production. The reason you have enough thyroid hormone is because your immune system is producing thyroid antibodies known as TSI that act in place of TSH, causing the excess thyroid hormone production. These antibodies also contribute to the eye symptoms. Subclinical conditions aren't usually treated because they often resolve on their own, and because treatment intended to lower thyroid hormone levels can make you hypothyroid. See more on subclinical hyperthyroidism on this page of my web site, http://daisyelaine_co.tripod.com/gravesdisease/ Take care, Elaine
