Guest guest
My experience with sore throats was pretty much like Pam's: I went hypo on PTU very quickly, in part because I didn't understand that although dropping the dose even gradually would leave me feeling hyper for a few days, this was OK. By the time my doc insisted, I was already hypo. And the less hypo I've gotten, the fewer colds, till I also seem to be doing better than others around me. Happily, my endo agreed that even though my TSH dropped from 8 to 2, I'm still hypo for me (FT4 and T3 low to mid-range; she hasn't tested FT3 and so far I haven't asked for it). About chicken soup, some industrious scientist finally proved it was a better cold fighter than hot water (pity the people in the experiment who had to drink the water for their cold instead)! Best wishes, B.
Guest guest
Good afternoon now!! I see theres another early bird on the list!! Are you in NY? I think its so wierd we would both have sore throats at the same time! Yeah and to top it off I had to have a biopsy done so thats sore and my throat and poooooorrrrrr wowessss me!!!!!!!!!!!!Ohh sorry that just slipped out.I do get a bit winey when I get sick like this though. If its this bad in the AM I'll go and get blood work doen first thing. I hate to feel like I " m a panicky person and run to the docs 1st thing. Well at least I got to get out of work early and I'm having a delesiouso cup of hot chamomile blend tea!! I hope your sore thoat get better soon Aldyth!! Luci > Hi Luci, > > Good morning to you too! > > I woke up this morning with a sore throat that kept waking me up in the night. I don't get many, but I'm putting mine down to a cold the rest of the family are suffering with..... either that or my body has gone into shock after all the spring cleaning I did yesterday! > > I think sometimes we go through phases of being ill and catching viruses, then we manage to get on top of it again. So long as your bloods come back ok then I shouldn't worry and just gargle with some salt water...yuck I know! > > Hope you feel better soon, > Aldyth >
Guest guest
Hi I also have swollen nodes that nobody know why they're swollen. I'm not particulary worried since my blood work comes back A-OK. But gee why cant anyone tell me a difinitive answer? Ahh anyway the sore throat is just so awful and I " m sooo winey and I dont even want to be around myself. Terrible isnt it? Thanks everyone for listening!! Luci > Hi Luci and Aldyth, > > Luci, are you on an ATD? I've been on PTU since Sept. I have the impression that ATDs suppress the immune system somewhat and make us more vulnerable to colds etc. > > I also had extremely swollen glands and a continual sore throat for my first three months of treatment (yeah I was in for CBCs every week). My endo thought this was unusual and tested me for everything from Lyme disease to mono, all negative. At eight months the situation's better but my glands stay pretty swollen. I think it's the Graves' itself. > > Best wishes, > B. > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Pam, I hope I'm not going hypo to the point I'm getting sick, you know? I am so mentaly exhausted with graves right now. I also hope I didnt mess things up with my body by getting this biopsy. I didnt want to stress out my body more than it could handle. I guess I " ll just have to wait and see. Right? Thanks everyone for listening!! Luci > Luci, > > My track record was that when over dosed on my PTU and hypo, I picked up > every bug, but mildly at least. Guest guest
top part snipped.......... Pam not only did I completely understand your logic, you phrased it perfectly!! It's only been over the couple of months. (Oct of 2002)that I have been compliant with meds/labs and following up on everything. Everything is so vast and complex and intracet,it can wobble the mind sometimes. There's so much learning going ....to think old dogs cant learn new tricks!! LOL Thanks Pam!! Tonsils okay? Tonsilitis has a lot to answer for in some Graves' patients, although I figure the doctors should spot this one easily, they might not be looking. Hi Simon, In my case the inflammation seemed less acute than tonsillitis and eventually subsided. My endo did test for strep and fortunately is a hands-on doc who actually looks in your throat, feels your thyroid, etc. But other people may not have the same experience, as some docs go for the exotic tests and overlook the obvious. My impression was the sore throat and swollen glands were a part of acute Graves', as I was also having gum problems and the beginnings of TED. Best wishes, B.
