Guest guest
Does anyone know if there have been studies involving countries whose diets do not contain wheat and dairy as staples? In many Asian countries these items are not included or are very limited and I wonder if the incidence of Autism is lesser, greater or the same has western societies. Anyone with info on this? I've wondered the same thing. Several months ago thought there was an article reprinted on the FEAT newsletter about music therapy for helping in teaching autistic children. The therapy was being used in China and studied in a collaborative effort by special educators from Ireland. I might have saved it, write me offlist if interested. Guest guest
Good question. I know from living in Arab countries, that a lot of wheat (bread) and yogurt is eaten. In middle Africa, there is not (or wasn't) much wheat eaten, nor milk. Of course, I think a lot of autism isn't recognized as such. If there appears epidemic proportions of a condition then serious consideration is placed on naming it. So in order to find numbers it would probably have to be an epidemic of sorts. I wonder who might have this kind of information. Lolita >Does anyone know if there have been studies involving countries whose >diets do not contain wheat and dairy as staples? Guest guest
I've read some stats through other groups. There has only been a minor rise in the autism rates in Japan. However, in Indonesia, the rates are rapidly rising, mirroring the US. Some put the difference down to vaccination schedules (mandatory in Indonesia; fewer vax, no mandatory DPT, no MMR in Japan). There are now yahoo groups specific to parents of adopted children w/ASD from China and to Indonesian parents. I have corresponded with an Indonesian parent whose child was very reactive to gluten & casein. She said the autism rate was about 1 in 150. You might find more info through the FEAT newsletter: www.feat.org > Does anyone know if there have been studies involving countries whose > diets do not contain wheat and dairy as staples?
