This isn't exact, but it looks like yes, he is between the 3rd/10th percentile (let's say 8th percentile) for BOTH height and weight. So then I went to the weight for height chart, and he is at almost exactly the 10% percentile for weight-for-height. So he is thin. But the good news is that he is ON the growth charts for height (the vast majority of RSS kids are no where near it). Are you and your husband very tall??? Based on his height being on the charts already, albeit at the 8th percentile, and that is only 3 yrs 3 months, don't panic that you aren't starting growth hormone. And the nutritionist is probably correct, that getting him to put on a lot of weight without his height increasing might not be good. However, even the 10th percentile is still pretty low, he would still be considered quite thin if he gained 1-2 pounds and rose to the 25th percentile (weight for height, remember that it is a DIFFERENT chart than jsut weight or just height). So with canola oil, peptamen jr, cheese, etc. that we have talked about before on here, especially making one high calorie milk shake a day, you could probably get that extra pound on him. I began adding instant breakfast or scandishake to his milk (one pouch per day) a few weeks ago and this has helped. Actually, he put on one pound in two weeks just by supplementing and is now why he is 26 lbs--he was 25 lbs at the time of his endo visit. I worry about him gaining weight too quickly and throwing something else out of balance. So, I will not panic, I will stay the course and keep on doing what I'm doing and hopefully we'll see more results.
